Warning

UBL-CR-185: The seller's registration address should be left out

In short

Warning: worth checking.

UBL-CR-185 means the seller's legal entity in the UBL file contains a registration address (RegistrationAddress), which EN 16931 does not use. It is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. Keep the seller's address in the normal postal address (BG-5) and remove this block.

What it means

The rule checks the seller's legal entity block (cac:PartyLegalEntity) and fails when it holds a cac:RegistrationAddress, the address where the company is registered. EN 16931 has one address for the seller, the postal address (BG-5). It sits in cac:PostalAddress directly under the party, not inside the legal entity.

Why it matters

This is only a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. The recipient reads the seller's address from the postal address (BG-5). An address stored in the legal entity is not part of the standard, so it is ignored and cannot be relied on to show where the seller is.

How to fix it

Remove cac:RegistrationAddress from cac:PartyLegalEntity. Then check that the seller's postal address is filled in under cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PostalAddress, with street, postcode, city and country. In your invoicing software this is your company address in the seller settings. If your registered office differs from the address you invoice from, EN 16931 has no separate field for it, but you can mention it as text in the additional legal information (BT-33).

The rule as published

A UBL invoice should not include the AccountingSupplierParty Party PartyLegalEntity RegistrationAddress
