Convert an e-invoice into another format

Convert an e-invoice between UBL, CII, XRechnung and Peppol BIS. Klarbon validates the new file before you download it, for one credit.

In short

Convert an e-invoice to XRechnung, Peppol BIS, UBL or CII. Reading a plain PDF invoice is not available yet. Free preview, then 1 credit (€4.99).

Klarbon converts an e-invoice from one format into another: UBL into CII, for example, or CII into XRechnung or Peppol BIS Billing. Drop the file, choose the format your customer asks for and check the fields. Klarbon writes the new file and validates it before you download it. The preview is free; a file that passes costs one credit. Klarbon does not send the invoice.

How does conversion work?

  1. Drop the e-invoice. A UBL, CII, XRechnung or Peppol BIS XML file, or a ZUGFeRD or Factur-X PDF with the invoice XML inside.
  2. Choose the target format. Pick the one your customer or their portal names.
  3. Check the fields. Compare what Klarbon read with the original and fill in anything the target requires, such as a buyer reference.
  4. Validate and download. Klarbon writes the file and checks it against EN 16931 and the target's rules before you pay. If it passes, one credit unlocks the download.

Which format should I choose?

Target Version Confirm with your customer
UBL 2.1 the UBL specification they accept; not every portal takes a plain UBL file
CII D16B the syntax and profile they accept
XRechnung 3.0 the buyer reference they gave you, such as a Leitweg-ID
Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 their Peppol ID; your access point sends the file

These four targets are live. ZUGFeRD and Factur-X are beta targets, written as a PDF with the invoice XML inside. The rule check on the new file is in beta, and a file that passes it is not a promise that the recipient accepts it. For the differences between the syntaxes, see Factur-X, UBL or CII.

What can change or be lost?

The new file starts from the fields Klarbon can read into its invoice model, not from a copy of the original XML. The target may not hold every field of the source, or may hold it differently, and the form recalculates the totals. Do not assume every value carries over unchanged.

Before you pay, read the conversion loss list. It describes changes made while writing the new file, not every field the reader could not carry from the original. Compare the result with the original, especially:

Validation tests consistency, such as the total with VAT being the total without VAT plus the VAT (BR-CO-15); it cannot tell whether an amount is the right one. To correct an invoice that was rejected, use Fix a rejected e-invoice.

Does Klarbon issue or send the invoice?

No. Klarbon converts the file of an invoice you have already issued; it does not issue invoices for tax purposes or replace your invoicing software. You download the new file and send it the way your customer asks: by email, through their portal, or through your Peppol provider or approved platform. Klarbon is not a Peppol access point and does not transmit invoices to any network or tax authority.

Only have a PDF invoice? Enter its details in PDF to e-invoice; automatic PDF reading is not available yet.

What happens to my file?

Klarbon sends the invoice, or the data read from it, to its servers to write and validate the new file. Klarbon creates no document archive. Before you pay, the encrypted result can wait in your browser tab until you unlock it or it expires. Processing is not guaranteed to stay entirely in the EU. See what happens to my files.

What does it cost?

One credit per converted file that passes validation. The preview is free, and if no valid file can be produced, no credit is used. One credit is EUR 4.99 including VAT, ten are EUR 29 and fifty EUR 99; bought credits do not expire; monthly plan credits do not roll over. See credits, limits and refunds and prices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an e-invoice into another format?

Drop the XML, or a ZUGFeRD or Factur-X PDF, choose the format your customer asks for and check the fields Klarbon read. Klarbon writes the new file and validates it before you download it. One credit unlocks a file that passes.

Which formats can I convert an e-invoice to?

UBL 2.1, CII D16B, XRechnung 3.0 and Peppol BIS Billing 3.0. ZUGFeRD and Factur-X are available as beta targets. Ask your customer which format, version and profile they accept before you convert.

Does the new file keep every field of the original?

Not necessarily. The new file starts from the fields Klarbon can read into its invoice model, and the totals are recalculated. A field the target cannot hold may be dropped or written differently. Read the conversion loss list and compare the result with the original.

Do I lose a credit if the new file fails validation?

No. A file that fails validation is never offered for unlocking, so no credit is spent.

Does Klarbon issue or send the converted invoice?

No. It converts the file of an invoice you have already issued. It does not issue invoices for tax purposes, does not send them and is not a Peppol access point.
