Warning

UBL-CR-261: Leave the buyer's bank account details out

In short

Warning: worth checking.

UBL-CR-261 means the buyer's party block includes a bank account (FinancialAccount), which EN 16931 does not use there. It is only a warning and the file is still accepted, but you fix it by removing that block and giving payment details in the payment instructions.

What it means

This rule checks the buyer's party block in a UBL invoice or credit note (cac:AccountingCustomerParty, cac:Party). It must not contain cac:FinancialAccount, a bank account attached to the buyer. The account to pay into (BT-84) belongs in the payment instructions (BG-16). If you collect by direct debit, the buyer's account to debit (BT-91) goes in the direct debit block (BG-19), not here.

Why it matters

The rule is a warning, so the file is still accepted. A bank account in the wrong place is not expected to be read and may be ignored, and it is not clear to the buyer's system what it is for. A bank account is also sensitive data that is better kept to where the standard defines it.

How to fix it

In your invoicing software, check that your own bank details are filled in under payment details, and clear any bank account stored in the buyer's party details. If you use direct debit, enter the buyer's account in the direct debit section. If you build the XML yourself, delete cac:FinancialAccount from cac:Party under cac:AccountingCustomerParty.

The rule as published

A UBL invoice should not include the AccountingCustomerParty Party FinancialAccount
