Warning

UBL-CR-169: The seller's VAT details should not include a registration name

In short

Warning: worth checking.

UBL-CR-169 means the seller's tax details contain a registration name (cac:PartyTaxScheme/cbc:RegistrationName), which EN 16931 does not use. Remove it and make sure your name is given once, as the seller name (BT-27).

On this page

What it means

UBL lets the tax details of a party repeat the name it is registered under. EN 16931 has one place for the seller's legal name, the seller name (BT-27) in the legal entity part. This rule fails whenever cbc:RegistrationName is present inside cac:PartyTaxScheme of the seller, even if it is empty.

Why it matters

This rule is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. The recipient's software takes the name from BT-27 and skips the copy in the tax details. It is worth fixing when the two names differ, because only one of them is read and it may not be the one you meant.

How to fix it

In your invoicing software, check the company name of your own company and keep it as the legal name. If you build the XML yourself, delete cbc:RegistrationName from cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PartyTaxScheme. Then check that cac:PartyLegalEntity/cbc:RegistrationName holds your full legal name.

The rule as published

A UBL invoice should not include the AccountingSupplierParty Party PartyTaxScheme RegistrationName
