Warning

UBL-CR-174: The seller's tax scheme should not include a name

In short

Warning: worth checking.

UBL-CR-174 means the tax scheme in the seller's tax details has a name (cac:TaxScheme/cbc:Name), which EN 16931 does not use. Remove the name and keep only the scheme identifier, which is VAT.

On this page

What it means

In the seller's tax details, the tax scheme says what kind of tax the number belongs to. EN 16931 only reads its identifier (cbc:ID), which for the VAT number (BT-31) is VAT. This rule fails whenever cbc:Name is present inside cac:TaxScheme in the seller's tax details, even if it is empty.

Why it matters

This rule is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. The recipient's software identifies the scheme by its identifier and ignores the name. It is worth fixing when your software writes a name by default, so that the file has one clear value for the scheme.

How to fix it

The name is normally added by the software when it writes the VAT number. Check for an export option that leaves it out, or ask the supplier of the software. If you build the XML yourself, delete cbc:Name from cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PartyTaxScheme/cac:TaxScheme and keep cbc:ID with the value VAT.

The rule as published

A UBL invoice should not include the AccountingSupplierParty Party PartyTaxScheme TaxScheme Name
