Warning

UBL-CR-175: The seller's tax scheme should not include a tax type code

In short

Warning: worth checking.

UBL-CR-175 means the tax scheme in the seller's tax details has a tax type code (cac:TaxScheme/cbc:TaxTypeCode), which EN 16931 does not use. Remove it and keep only the scheme identifier, which is VAT.

On this page

What it means

In the seller's tax details, the tax scheme says what kind of tax the number belongs to. EN 16931 only reads its identifier (cbc:ID), which for the VAT number (BT-31) is VAT. This rule fails whenever cbc:TaxTypeCode is present inside cac:TaxScheme in the seller's tax details, even if it is empty.

Why it matters

This rule is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. The recipient's software has no field for a tax type code and ignores it. It is worth fixing when your software adds it by default and you want the file to match the standard exactly.

How to fix it

Check for an export option in your invoicing software that leaves out extra tax scheme details. If you build the XML yourself, delete cbc:TaxTypeCode from cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PartyTaxScheme/cac:TaxScheme. Keep cbc:ID with the value VAT, next to the VAT number in cbc:CompanyID.

The rule as published

A UBL invoice should not include the AccountingSupplierParty Party PartyTaxScheme TaxScheme TaxTypeCode
