Warning

CII-SR-378: Do not include a card spending limit

In short

Warning: worth checking.

CII-SR-378 means the payment card details in the file include a CreditLimitAmount element, the spending limit of the card, which EN 16931 does not use. Fix it by deleting that element. The file is still accepted.

On this page

What it means

The payment card details (ApplicableTradeSettlementFinancialCard) inside the payment means section contain a CreditLimitAmount element, which holds the spending limit of the card. EN 16931 has no field for it. It allows only the card number (BT-87) and the cardholder name (BT-88).

Why it matters

This is a warning, so the file is still accepted. A card limit says nothing about what is owed on the invoice, and the buyer's software is not expected to read it. It is worth fixing to keep the file clean, and because a limit is private information about the card.

How to fix it

Look for a card limit in the payment details your invoicing software exports and switch it off. If you edit the XML yourself, delete the CreditLimitAmount element from the card details. The amount to be paid belongs in the amount due (BT-115), not here.
