Warning

CII-SR-373: Do not include a payment card type code

In short

Warning: worth checking.

CII-SR-373 means the payment card details in the file include a TypeCode element, which EN 16931 does not use there. Fix it by deleting that element from the card details, and leave the payment means code alone. The file is still accepted.

On this page

What it means

The payment card details (ApplicableTradeSettlementFinancialCard) contain a TypeCode element, a code for the type of card. This is not the payment means code (BT-81), which is also written in an element called TypeCode but sits directly in the payment means section, outside the card details. EN 16931 allows only the card number (BT-87) and the cardholder name (BT-88) in the card details.

Why it matters

This is a warning, so the file is still accepted. The buyer's software does not read a card type, so it is dropped or ignored. It is worth fixing to keep the file clean.

How to fix it

Delete the TypeCode that sits inside the card details. Do not delete the TypeCode that sits directly in SpecifiedTradeSettlementPaymentMeans, because that is the payment means code (BT-81) and it is required whenever you give payment instructions. In your invoicing software, look for a card type or card brand field that is exported and switch it off.
