Warning

CII-SR-295: Order line numbers belong on the invoice line, not the header

In short

Warning: worth checking.

CII-SR-295 means the purchase order reference at the top of the invoice includes a line number (LineID), which is not used there. It is only a warning, so the file is still accepted; remove it, or move it to the invoice line.

On this page

What it means

The check looks at the purchase order reference (ram:BuyerOrderReferencedDocument) in the agreement part of the invoice header and fails if it carries a line number (ram:LineID). At this level EN 16931 only wants the purchase order number (BT-13). A reference to a particular order line is given on the invoice line itself (BT-132).

Why it matters

This is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. At the top of the invoice a line number does not say which invoice line it belongs to, so a recipient that follows the standard ignores it. The purchase order number is still read. It is worth fixing if you want each invoice line matched to its order line.

How to fix it

Remove the order line number from the order reference at the top of the invoice and keep the purchase order number. In the XML, delete ram:LineID inside ram:BuyerOrderReferencedDocument in ram:ApplicableHeaderTradeAgreement. To tie a line to an order line, fill in the purchase order line reference (BT-132) on that invoice line, under ram:SpecifiedLineTradeAgreement.
