Warning

CII-SR-298: Do not give a line number for the contract reference

In short

Warning: worth checking.

CII-SR-298 means the contract reference includes a line number (LineID), which EN 16931 does not use. It is only a warning, so the file is still accepted; remove the line number and keep the contract number.

On this page

What it means

The check looks at the contract reference (ram:ContractReferencedDocument) in the agreement part of the invoice header and fails if it carries a line number (ram:LineID). EN 16931 uses this reference only for the contract number (BT-12).

Why it matters

This is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. A recipient that follows the standard reads the contract number and ignores the line number. It is worth fixing if the buyer needs to know which contract line you are invoicing, because that detail is lost.

How to fix it

Take the contract line number out of the contract reference in your invoicing software, leaving only the contract number. In the XML, delete ram:LineID inside ram:ContractReferencedDocument and keep ram:IssuerAssignedID. If the contract line matters to the buyer, mention it in the invoice note.
