BR-FXEXT-08: A subtotal line must equal the sum of the lines below it

In short

Error: fails the selected checks.

BR-FXEXT-08 means a subtotal line has a net amount that is not the sum of the net amounts of the lines directly below it. Fix it by correcting the subtotal, and check that every line below it has a net amount.

On this page

What it means

A group line (line subtype GROUP) that has its own net amount (BT-131) must show the sum of the net amounts of the lines one level below it that are normal lines (DETAIL) or group lines (GROUP). Because the sum needs every amount, each of those lower lines must have a net amount too. Lines of any other subtype are not counted. If the group line has no net amount of its own, the rule does not apply.

Why it matters

A subtotal that disagrees with the lines it groups makes the invoice contradict itself. The recipient cannot tell which figure is right, so the file fails the check.

How to fix it

Add up the net amounts of the lines directly under the subtotal and put the result on the subtotal line. Check that every one of those lines has a net amount, because a missing amount makes the sum wrong. If you only use the group line as a heading, leave its amount empty and the rule no longer applies. Most software calculates subtotals for you, so a mismatch often means a line was changed after the subtotal was set.

The rule as published

If the "Subtype of invoice item" (BT-X-8) has the value "Subtotal" (GROUP) and the "Net amount of the invoice item" (BT-131) is specified, it must correspond to the sum of the BT-131 of the next lower levels for which the "Subtype of the invoice item" (BT-X-8) has the value "Regular item (standard case)" (DETAIL) or "Subtotal" (GROUP). As a consequence, all lower levels shall contain a BT-131 value, when BT-X-8 has the value DETAIL or GROUP.

Business terms: BT-131
