What it means
An attachment embedded in the invoice (BT-125) states its file type as a MIME code (BT-125-1). The code must be exactly one of: application/pdf, image/png, image/jpeg, text/csv, application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet (Excel), application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet (OpenDocument spreadsheet) or application/xml. The rule only runs on invoices that use the XRechnung extension. XRechnung CII files are checked the same way.
Why it matters
The recipient's system opens or stores an attachment according to its stated type. A type outside the list is not accepted, so the invoice fails validation and is rejected.
How to fix it
Open the attachment on the invoice in your invoicing software and check its file type. If it is a Word, ZIP or other file, convert it to PDF or another allowed type and attach that instead. If the file itself is fine but the type is wrong, for example a PDF labelled application/octet-stream, correct the type so it matches the list exactly.
The rule as published
Das Element "Attached Document" (BT-125) benutzt einen nicht zulässigen MIME-Code: … . Im Falle einer Extension darf zusätzlich zu der Liste der mime codes (definiert in Abschnitt 8.2, "Binary Object") der MIME-Code application/xml genutzt werden. Business terms: BT-125
