BR-CO-03: Use either a VAT point date or a VAT point date code, not both

In short

BR-CO-03 means the invoice gives both a VAT point date and a VAT point date code, and only one is allowed. Fix it by keeping one of the two, or neither if VAT is due on the invoice date.

On this page

What it means

The invoice gives the date the VAT became due (BT-7) and also a code that says how that date is worked out (BT-8). Only one of the two may be used.

Why it matters

With both present, the recipient cannot tell which one decides the VAT period, so the invoice is rejected.

How to fix it

Keep the actual VAT point date if you know it and remove the date code, or keep the code and remove the date. Most invoices need neither: leave both out if the VAT point is the invoice date.

The rule as published

Value added tax point date (BT-7) and Value added tax point date code (BT-8) are mutually exclusive.

Business terms: BT-7, BT-8
