BR-CO-04: Every invoice line needs a VAT category

In short

BR-CO-04 means an invoice line has no VAT category code. Fix it by giving every line a VAT category, such as S for the standard rate or E for exempt, and creating the file again.

On this page

What it means

At least one invoice line has no VAT category code (BT-151), the code that says whether the line is standard rated, zero rated, exempt, reverse charge and so on.

Why it matters

The VAT breakdown and the VAT total are built from the line categories. Without one, the recipient cannot check or book the VAT.

How to fix it

Give every line a VAT category in your invoicing software: S for the normal rate, Z for zero rated, E for exempt, AE for reverse charge, K for intra-EU supplies, G for exports, O for outside the scope of VAT. Then create the file again.

The rule as published

Each Invoice line (BG-25) shall be categorized with an Invoiced item VAT category code (BT-151).

Business terms: BG-25, BT-151
