Warning

UBL-CR-165: The seller's address should not include a timezone offset

In short

Warning: worth checking.

UBL-CR-165 means the seller's postal address contains a timezone offset (cbc:TimezoneOffset), which an invoice does not need. Remove the element.

On this page

What it means

UBL lets a postal address state the time difference from UTC for the place it describes. EN 16931 has no field for this, and the seller's address (BG-5) is only about where to find the seller. This rule fails whenever cbc:TimezoneOffset is present in that address, even if it is empty.

Why it matters

This rule is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. Dates on an e-invoice are plain dates without a time, so a timezone offset has no use and the recipient's software ignores it. It is worth removing so that the file stays clean and does not raise questions at a stricter recipient.

How to fix it

You rarely type this value yourself. It usually comes from a generic UBL library or an export template that fills in every address element. Check the export settings in your invoicing software, or ask the supplier of the software to stop writing it. If you build the XML yourself, delete cbc:TimezoneOffset from cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PostalAddress.

The rule as published

A UBL invoice should not include the AccountingSupplierParty Party PostalAddress TimezoneOffset
