What it means
For each invoice line (BG-25), if the line has a parent line ID (BT-X-304), it must also have a line subtype (BT-X-8). In the Extended profile the parent is ram:ParentLineID and the subtype is ram:LineStatusReasonCode, both inside the line's ram:AssociatedDocumentLineDocument. The check fails when a parent is given and the subtype is missing or empty.
Why it matters
Parent and child lines are used to build groups and subtotals within the invoice. Without the subtype the recipient cannot tell what kind of line it is, such as a normal line or a subtotal, so it cannot place the line in the structure, and the file fails the check.
How to fix it
Open the line in your invoicing software and look at how it is grouped. If it belongs to a group, set its subtype: DETAIL for a normal line, or GROUP for a subtotal line that has its own lines under it. If you do not want a group structure, remove the parent reference from the line instead.
The rule as published
For each item (BG-25), if the "ID of the parent line" (BT-X-304) is used, the "Subtype of the invoice item" (BT-X-8) must be specified. Business terms: BG-25
