BR-DEC-09: Sum of line amounts: at most two decimals

In short

BR-DEC-09 means the sum of all invoice line amounts has more than two decimals. Fix it by rounding each line amount to two decimals first, then adding them up so the sum has two decimals too.

On this page

What it means

The sum of the net amounts of all invoice lines (BT-106) has more than two digits after the decimal point. Every digit after the point counts, so 1180.125 fails and so does 1180.100.

Why it matters

This sum is the starting point of all the invoice totals: the total without VAT is worked out from it. If it carries extra decimals, every figure built on it is off, and the file fails validation and is rejected.

How to fix it

Round each invoice line net amount (BT-131) to two decimals, then add those rounded amounts to get this sum. Do not round the sum separately, because it must equal the line amounts added together. If every line already has two decimals and the sum does not, your software is adding unrounded values, so change its rounding setting or round before export.

The rule as published

The allowed maximum number of decimals for the Sum of Invoice line net amount (BT-106) is 2.
