Understanding TicketBAI

TicketBAI uses signed, chained XML invoices sent to Basque provincial tax authorities. Read about the TBAI identifier, QR code and file content.

On this page

TicketBAI is the Basque Country's system for invoicing software. For each invoice, the software creates a TicketBAI XML file, signs it, chains it to the previous invoice and sends it to the provincial tax authority of Álava, Bizkaia or Gipuzkoa. The invoice shows a 39 character TBAI identifier and a QR code. Each province sets its own dates and details. Klarbon support is planned, not available yet.

The shared specification describes the file, the signature, the chaining, the TBAI identifier and the QR code (TicketBAI 1.2). Each authority publishes its own validation lists and rules, as Gipuzkoa does (Gipuzkoa).

Frequently asked questions

What is TicketBAI?

A system shared by the three Basque provincial tax authorities, of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. Invoicing software must create a signed TicketBAI file for each invoice, before the invoice itself, and send it to the provincial authority.

What is the TBAI identifier?

A 39 character code printed on the invoice. It is made of the text TBAI, the issuer's tax number, the issue date as DDMMYY, the first 13 characters of the file's signature value and a 3 character CRC-8 check code, separated by hyphens.

How are TicketBAI files chained?

Each file holds the series, number and issue date of the previous invoice and the start of that file's signature. A missing or altered invoice breaks the chain.

Does TicketBAI apply in the rest of Spain?

No. It applies to taxpayers under the Basque provincial tax authorities. The rest of Spain follows the state invoicing software rules, known as VERI*FACTU, and the dates and details of TicketBAI are set by each province.
