Understanding TEAPPSXML

TEAPPSXML is a Finnish XML e-invoice format used between operators. Read about version 3.0, its relation to Finvoice and EN 16931, and Klarbon's plans.

On this page

TEAPPSXML is one of Finland's two national e-invoice formats, alongside Finvoice. It is an XML message format developed and owned by Tieto, used for e-invoice exchange between Finnish e-invoice operators. The current version, TEAPPSXML 3.0, follows the semantic model of the European standard EN 16931, but compliance depends on how the sender fills it. Klarbon plans to open TEAPPSXML files; this is not available yet.

What is in a TEAPPSXML invoice?

Property Value
Owner Tieto
Current version 3.0; implementation guide updated May 2026
Syntax XML
Control data transport and content frames for routing between operators
Invoice and rows invoice-level data, and data that changes per row
Attachments images and attachment files handled alongside the invoice
EN 16931 possible, not enforced

Tieto publishes the description, an empty invoice with explanations, the implementation guide and a TEAPPSXML 3.0 to Finvoice 3.0 mapping (Tieto). The guide states that TEAPPSXML 3.0 enables EN 16931 compliant invoices but does not guarantee them (Tieto implementation guide).

TIEKE, which runs the Finnish e-invoice address service, describes both national formats and says operators convert TEAPPSXML to Finvoice when an invoice goes to a bank's customer (TIEKE).

What does Klarbon do with TEAPPSXML?

Opening TEAPPSXML files is planned, not available yet. Klarbon opens Peppol BIS and other UBL invoices; see the invoice viewer.

Frequently asked questions

What is TEAPPSXML?

One of Finland's two national e-invoice formats, alongside Finvoice. It is an XML message format developed and owned by Tieto, and e-invoice operators use it to exchange invoices with each other.

Is TEAPPSXML compliant with EN 16931?

Version 3.0 can carry an EN 16931 compliant invoice, but it does not force one. Tieto's implementation guide says the sender must also apply the European standard's codes, rules and content requirements.

What is the difference between TEAPPSXML and Finvoice?

Finvoice is the banks' format and travels in the Finnish bank network. TEAPPSXML is used between e-invoice operators; when an invoice goes to a bank's customer, the operator converts it to Finvoice.
