Frequently asked questions

What is a Swiss QR-bill?

The standard payment part of an invoice in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. It has a receipt and a payment section with a Swiss QR Code that holds the payment details, which banking apps scan. It replaced the old payment slips on 1 October 2022.

What is the difference between a QR-IBAN and an IBAN?

A QR-IBAN is a special IBAN for incoming payments with a QR reference, a 27-digit structured reference. With a normal IBAN, the bill carries either an ISO 11649 creditor reference starting with RF, or no structured reference.

Which version of the QR-bill specification applies?

Version 2.3 of the Swiss Implementation Guidelines has applied since November 2025. Version 2.4 enters into force on 14 November 2026 and replaces it, while 2.3 remains valid until November 2027.

Which currencies can a QR-bill use?

Only Swiss francs (CHF) and euros (EUR). Under version 2.4, a euro bill can use only an IBAN with a creditor reference or an IBAN with an unstructured message.

Is a QR-bill an e-invoice?

No. It carries payment details, not invoice lines or VAT. A structured e-invoice is a separate file, for example in UBL or CII.
