Understanding Austrian RKSV data capture log

The RKSV data capture log, DEP, records Austrian cash register sales as JSON with signed receipts and certificates. Read about its content and chaining.

On this page

The RKSV data capture log (DEP) records every cash sale of an Austrian cash register under the Registrierkassensicherheitsverordnung. Its export is a JSON file holding the signed receipts as JSON Web Signatures, with the signature certificate and its chain. Each receipt is signed with ES256 and chained to the one before; the sales counter is encrypted with AES-256. Klarbon support is planned, not available yet.

What is in a DEP export?

Field Holds
Belege-Gruppe one group per signature or seal certificate used
Signaturzertifikat the certificate, Base64 of the DER encoding
Zertifizierungsstellen the chain of certification authorities
Belege-kompakt the signed receipts, as compact JSON Web Signatures, in stored order
Receipt type Purpose
Startbeleg the first receipt of a cash register, with amount zero
Monatsbeleg the month-end counter, with amount zero
Jahresbeleg the year-end monthly receipt, printed, checked and kept
Training and cancellation recorded like sales and marked as such
Property Value
Format JSON, RFC 7159
Receipt signature JWS, ES256
Chaining first 8 bytes of the SHA-256 hash of the previous signature
Sales counter encrypted with AES-256
Machine-readable code QR code on the receipt
Regulation RKSV, BGBl. II No. 410/2015, as amended

The regulation and its annex define the log and the export format (RKSV). The Federal Ministry of Finance publishes sample code and a test tool for DEP exports (sample code).

RKSV DEP or DSFinV-K?

RKSV DEP DSFinV-K
Country Austria Germany
Format JSON CSV files with index.xml
Signatures each receipt, chained TSE data in its own file

What does Klarbon do with RKSV exports?

Klarbon does not support the RKSV DEP today; opening an export and showing its receipts is planned, not available yet. Klarbon does not sign receipts, check certificates or register cash registers. Klarbon works with invoices and bank statements; see supported bank statement files.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RKSV DEP?

The Datenerfassungsprotokoll, the data capture log that every Austrian cash register keeps under the Registrierkassensicherheitsverordnung (RKSV). It records each cash sale, training booking and cancellation with the receipt data, in real time and in order.

What does the DEP export look like?

A JSON file. Each group holds the signature or seal certificate, the chain of certification authorities, and the signed receipts in the compact form of JSON Web Signature, in the order they were stored.

How are the receipts protected?

Each receipt is signed with ES256. The signed data includes the first 8 bytes of the SHA-256 hash of the previous receipt's signature, so the receipts form a chain. The sales counter is encrypted with AES-256.

Since when must the DEP be exportable?

Since 1 April 2017 the data capture log must be exportable at any time to an external medium in the export format set out in the annex to the RKSV.
