Norma 43, or Cuaderno 43, is the Spanish banks' fixed-width statement file from the AEB. Read about its records and compare it with CAMT.053.

Norma 43, also called Cuaderno 43 or C43, is the account statement file that Spanish banks deliver to their business customers. It is defined by the Asociación Española de Banca (AEB) as standardised current account information, last revised in June 2012 to add SEPA transfer and direct debit data. A file is plain text in fixed-length records of 80 positions. Klarbon reads and writes Norma 43 in beta.

What is in a Norma 43 file?

Record Holds
Account header bank, branch, account number, period, opening balance, currency, information mode
Main movement record dates, common concept, own concept, debit or credit, amount, document number, references
Concept records, up to 5, optional free text agreed with the customer, two fields of 38 positions each
Amount equivalence record, optional the original currency and amount when it differs from the account's
End of account totals of debits and credits, closing balance
End of file the number of records

The header, movement and end-of-account sequence repeats for every account in the file. Three information modes set how much detail each movement carries; the third adds standardised SEPA data. Every movement has a common concept code, such as 04 for transfers or 12 for cards, plus the bank's own code (CaixaBank, in Spanish).

Norma 43 or CAMT.053?

Norma 43 is a national format that Spanish accounting software has imported for decades. CAMT.053 is the ISO 20022 XML statement used across Europe, with richer structured remittance data. Use whichever your software's import screen asks for.

What does Klarbon do with Norma 43?

Task Status
Read a Norma 43 file (June 2012, modes 1 to 3) and write it as CSV, Excel, CAMT.053, MT940 or OFX beta
Write Norma 43 from another bank file Klarbon reads, such as CAMT.053 or MT940 beta, after the balance check
Import into a specific Spanish accounting package not tested

Klarbon's Norma 43 support is tested on synthetic files, not yet on files from every bank. Test a short period in your software first. See supported bank statement files.

Two-digit codes that classify each movement the same way at every bank, for example 04 for transfers, 12 for card payments and 17 for interest, fees and charges. Each bank adds its own codes alongside.
