Understanding Chile Documento Tributario Electronico

Chile's DTE is national XML defined by the SII, digitally signed and stamped using authorised folios. Read about document types and the electronic stamp.

On this page

A Chilean Documento Tributario Electrónico (DTE) is an invoice or related tax document in the SII's own XML schema, version 1.0. Each DTE is signed with XMLDSig and carries an electronic stamp, the TED, built from folios the SII authorises (the CAF). On paper the stamp is printed as a PDF417 barcode. DTEs are sent to the SII in an EnvioDTE envelope. Klarbon support is planned, not available yet.

Frequently asked questions

What is a DTE?

A Documento Tributario Electrónico, the Chilean electronic tax document defined by the tax authority, the Servicio de Impuestos Internos (SII). Invoices, exempt invoices, purchase invoices, dispatch guides and credit and debit notes are all DTEs in the same national XML schema.

What is the timbre electrónico?

The electronic stamp, the TED element in the XML. It holds the basic document data and the folio authorisation (CAF), with a signature using an algorithm permitted by the SII schema. On paper it is printed as a PDF417 barcode so the printed document can be checked.

What is a CAF?

The Código de Autorización de Folios, a range of document numbers the SII authorises for an issuer and document type, with a key used to sign the stamp. A DTE has to use a folio from a valid CAF.

Is a DTE a UBL invoice?

No. It uses the SII's own XML schema, version 1.0, not UBL or CII, and is not based on EN 16931.
