Validate an XRechnung
Check your XRechnung against EN 16931 and the XRechnung rules. Review returned findings in plain English. Free within the daily limit.
In short
Check an invoice against its applicable EN 16931 and national rule set. Read each finding and guidance on what to correct. Free, 5 a day without an account.
Klarbon's XRechnung validator checks an XRechnung file, in UBL or CII, against the European standard EN 16931 and the German XRechnung rules published by KoSIT. Returned findings include rule codes and guidance where available. It is free for five checks a day, twenty with a free account, and the file is deleted after the check.
How do I validate an XRechnung?
- Upload the XML file. Klarbon detects UBL or CII and the XRechnung version the file declares.
- Read the report. Returned findings show the rule code and severity, with a business term, source location and correction guidance where available.
- Correct and check again. Fix the invoice in your software and recheck, or use Fix to correct it in a form and download a validated file for one credit.
The report names the ruleset and version it used, so you can compare it with what a portal reported.
Which rules does it apply?
| Ruleset | Prefix | Source |
|---|---|---|
| EN 16931 core rules | BR-, BR-CO-, BR-CL- and others | CEN/TC 434 artefacts |
| XRechnung national rules | BR-DE- | KoSIT |
Klarbon checks supported XRechnung 3.0 UBL invoices and CII files using the 3.0.2 rule sets, in beta. UBL credit-note checking is not supported yet. If your recipient applies a different version, the two results can differ; the version line in the report tells you which one Klarbon used.
Which errors are common?
A synthetic example:
| Rule | Field | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| BR-DE-15 | BT-10 Buyer reference | the buyer reference is missing | enter the Leitweg-ID, or your customer's reference |
| BR-DE-1 | BG-16 Payment instructions | no payment instructions given | add the payment means and IBAN |
| BR-CO-15 | BT-112 Total with VAT | total with VAT is not total without VAT plus VAT (OpenPeppol) | correct the rounding |
Find catalogue guidance in e-invoice error codes; not every schema diagnostic has a dedicated page.
Does a pass mean the invoice will be accepted?
A pass means the file passed the selected technical checks, not every possible requirement. It does not confirm the VAT treatment, the amounts or the bank details, and a portal can still reject an unknown Leitweg-ID or a supplier who is not registered. Technical validation is not tax advice.
What happens to my file?
It is sent to Klarbon's servers, validated in memory and deleted after the request. Klarbon keeps no copy and logs no invoice content. See what happens to my files. To only read the invoice without uploading it, open the XRechnung instead.
What does it cost?
Checking is free: five a day without an account, twenty with a free account, up to 2,000 a day on Pro and Bookkeeper. See prices.

Frequently asked questions
How do I validate an XRechnung?
Upload the XML to Klarbon's XRechnung validator. It applies EN 16931 and the XRechnung rules using the supported XRechnung 3.0.2 rule sets for UBL invoices and CII. It reports findings with guidance where available. UBL credit-note checking is not supported yet.
Does the validator check XRechnung in UBL and in CII?
Yes, for supported XRechnung 3.0 UBL invoices and CII files. Checking uses the 3.0.2 rule sets and is in beta; UBL credit-note checking is not supported yet.
What does BR-DE-15 mean?
It is an XRechnung rule that requires the buyer reference (BT-10). Use a Leitweg-ID when the recipient requires one, or the buyer reference your customer supplies.
Does a valid XRechnung mean the portal will accept it?
No. A pass means the selected technical checks passed, not that every requirement was checked. Portals can also reject an unknown Leitweg-ID or a missing registration, which no file check can see.
How many XRechnung files can I check for free?
Five a day without an account and twenty with a free account. Pro and Bookkeeper have a 2000-check daily fair-use limit.
