Warning

UBL-CR-177: The seller's tax scheme should not include a jurisdiction address

In short

Warning: worth checking.

UBL-CR-177 means the tax scheme in the seller's tax details has a jurisdiction region address (cac:TaxScheme/cac:JurisdictionRegionAddress), which EN 16931 does not use. Remove the element.

On this page

What it means

UBL lets a tax scheme say in which region or jurisdiction it applies, with an address. EN 16931 only reads the identifier of the tax scheme (cbc:ID), which for the VAT number (BT-31) is VAT. This rule fails whenever cac:JurisdictionRegionAddress is present inside cac:TaxScheme in the seller's tax details, even if it is empty.

Why it matters

This rule is a warning, so the invoice is still accepted. The recipient's software has no field for a jurisdiction address and ignores it. It is worth fixing when your software adds it by default, so that the file only holds what the standard defines.

How to fix it

Check the export settings in your invoicing software for extra tax scheme details and switch them off. If you build the XML yourself, delete cac:JurisdictionRegionAddress from cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PartyTaxScheme/cac:TaxScheme. The address of your company belongs in the postal address (BG-5).

The rule as published

A UBL invoice should not include the AccountingSupplierParty Party PartyTaxScheme TaxScheme JurisdictionRegionAddress
