Warning

CII-SR-234: Seller contact should not have a direct phone number

In short

Warning: worth checking.

CII-SR-234 means the seller's contact details include a separate direct telephone number, which EN 16931 does not use. It is only a warning: put the number you want the buyer to call in the normal telephone field and remove the direct one.

What it means

In a CII file, the seller's contact (BG-6) can carry one telephone number (BT-42). This rule warns when the contact also has a DirectTelephoneUniversalCommunication element, a second, direct-dial number.

Why it matters

The invoice is still accepted. The standard has a single phone field for the seller's contact, so the buyer's software will normally ignore the direct number. If that is the number you want people to use, it is lost.

How to fix it

Decide which number the buyer should call. Enter it as the contact's main telephone number in your invoicing software, and clear the direct-dial field or stop it being exported. In hand-edited XML, move the number into TelephoneUniversalCommunication and delete the DirectTelephoneUniversalCommunication element.

The rule as published

DirectTelephoneUniversalCommunication should not be present
