Error

BR-FXEXT-12: If a subtotal line has an amount, subtotals under it need one too

In short

Error: fails the selected checks.

BR-FXEXT-12 means a subtotal line has a net amount, but a subtotal line directly below it has none. Fix it by giving every group line under that subtotal its own net amount, or by leaving the amount off the top subtotal.

On this page

What it means

If a group line (line subtype GROUP) has a net amount (BT-131), every group line directly below it, meaning every line that names it as its parent and is also a group line, must have a net amount (BT-131) as well. The check only applies when the higher group line has an amount. It looks at nested group lines only. Whether the amounts add up is checked by BR-FXEXT-08.

Why it matters

A subtotal with an amount tells the reader how much the lines under it come to. If a sub-group inside it has no amount, that total cannot be built up or checked, so the file fails the check.

How to fix it

Find the subtotal that has an amount and look at the group lines directly under it. Give each of them a net amount, which should be the sum of its own lines. If you only use the top group line as a heading, remove its amount instead and the rule no longer applies to it. Your software normally calculates these amounts, so a gap usually means a line was added or edited by hand.

The rule as published

If the "Subtype of invoice line item" (EXT-FR-FE-163 / BT-X-8) has the value "GROUP" and if the "Invoice line net amount" (BT-131) is specified, all lower levels which has "Subtype of invoice line item" (EXT-FR-FE-163) equal to "GROUP" MUST contain a "Invoice line net amount" (BT-131) value.

Business terms: BT-131
