BR-DEC-20: VAT amount per VAT category: at most two decimals

In short

Fatal: fails the selected checks.

BR-DEC-20 means the VAT amount of a VAT category in the VAT breakdown has more than two decimals. Fix it by multiplying the taxable amount by the rate and rounding the result to two decimals.

On this page

What it means

In the VAT breakdown, the VAT amount of one VAT category (BT-117) has more than two digits after the decimal point. Every digit after the point counts, so 197.4 is fine but 197.405 fails and so does 197.400.

Why it matters

The VAT breakdown shows how much VAT is due at each rate, and the total VAT is the sum of these amounts. A VAT amount with extra decimals cannot be booked as stated, so the file fails validation and is rejected.

How to fix it

For each VAT rate, multiply the taxable amount (BT-116) by the rate, round the result to two decimals and enter it as the VAT amount of that category. The total VAT (BT-110) is then the sum of these rounded amounts. For categories without VAT, such as zero-rated or exempt, the VAT amount is 0.00.

The rule as published

The allowed maximum number of decimals for the VAT category tax amount (BT-117) is 2.
