BR-DEC-12: Total without VAT: at most two decimals

In short

BR-DEC-12 means the invoice total without VAT has more than two decimals. Fix it by rounding the amounts it is built from to two decimals and recalculating the total.

On this page

What it means

The invoice total without VAT (BT-109) has more than two digits after the decimal point. Every digit after the point counts, so 1180.125 fails and so does 1180.100.

Why it matters

The total without VAT is the base for the total with VAT, and the recipient books it to the cent. A total with extra decimals cannot be booked as stated, so the file fails validation and is rejected.

How to fix it

Work out the total without VAT as the sum of the line amounts, minus the discounts on the whole invoice, plus the charges on the whole invoice, using amounts already rounded to two decimals. If your software calculates it from unrounded figures, set its rounding to two decimals or round before export. Do not round only the total, because it must still match the amounts it is made from.

The rule as published

The allowed maximum number of decimals for the Invoice total amount without VAT (BT-109) is 2.
