BR-CO-15: Total with VAT must equal net total plus VAT

In short

BR-CO-15 means the invoice total with VAT (BT-112) is not the total without VAT (BT-109) plus the total VAT (BT-110). Fix it by recalculating the gross total as net plus VAT to the cent, rounding the VAT once per rate rather than per line.

What it means

The invoice total with VAT (BT-112) is not exactly the total without VAT (BT-109) plus the total VAT amount (BT-110).

Why it matters

This is the most basic check on an invoice. If the gross total does not equal net plus VAT, the recipient cannot know which figure is right, and the invoice is rejected.

How to fix it

Recalculate the total with VAT as the total without VAT plus the VAT total, to the cent. If the difference is a cent or two, the VAT was rounded per line instead of per VAT rate: work out the VAT on each rate's total, round it once, and add. If the paid amount or a rounding amount is involved, those belong in the amount due (BT-115), not in the total with VAT.

The rule as published

Invoice total amount with VAT (BT-112) = Invoice total amount without VAT (BT-109) + Invoice total VAT amount (BT-110).

Business terms: BT-109, BT-110, BT-112
