BR-CL-08: A note subject code must come from UNTDID 4451

In short

BR-CL-08 means an invoice note (BT-21 or BT-22) has a subject code that is not in UNTDID 4451. Check the notes on the invoice: remove the code, or use a valid one such as #AAI# or #REG#.

What it means

An invoice note can start with a subject code saying what the note is about, such as AAI for general information or REG for regulatory information. In UBL the code is written between hash signs at the start of the note, for example #AAI#, and it must come from UNTDID 4451. Some rule sets check a narrower selection of that list.

Why it matters

Codes are read by software, not by people. A value outside the agreed code list cannot be interpreted, so the recipient's system rejects the invoice even when the value looks sensible to a person.

How to fix it

Check the notes on the invoice: remove the code, or use a valid one such as #AAI# or #REG#. Notes that happen to start with text between two hash signs, for example #123#, are read as a code too, so rephrase them. In CII the code goes in ram:SubjectCode instead.

The rule as published

Invoiced note subject code shall be coded using UNCL4451

Where EN 16931 (CII), XRechnung 3.0 (CII), NLCIUS (CII), France CTC (CII) run it, the rule reads:

Subject Code MUST be coded using a restriction of UNTDID 4451.
