What it means
When the seller is Icelandic and a payment means entry uses code 42 (BT-81), a payment to a bank account, that entry must have a payment account identifier (BT-84) of exactly 12 characters. The check counts characters, so a space or hyphen inside the number makes it too long. Invoices that do not use code 42 are not affected.
Why it matters
The account number is where the buyer sends the money. If it is missing or not in the Icelandic 12-digit form, the buyer cannot pay from the invoice, so the Icelandic rules treat it as an error and the invoice is rejected.
How to fix it
Check the payment details in your invoicing software. For a bank transfer, enter your 12-digit Icelandic account number as one block, with no spaces or hyphens. In the XML this is cbc:ID in cac:PayeeFinancialAccount of the cac:PaymentMeans whose cbc:PaymentMeansCode is 42.
