FX-SCH-A-000500: The tax representative's VAT number needs a valid scheme code

In short

Error: fails the selected checks.

FX-SCH-A-000500 means the scheme code on the VAT number of the seller's tax representative (BT-63) is not one that the Basic profile of Factur-X and ZUGFeRD allows. Fix it by setting the scheme to VA, the code for a VAT number, written in capitals.

On this page

What it means

A tax representative of the seller is identified by a VAT number (BT-63), which is sent with a scheme code that says what kind of registration it is. For a VAT number that code is VA. The rule checks that a code, when present, is in the allowed list.

Why it matters

The recipient's software uses the code to recognise the number as the VAT number of the representative. A different or misspelt code cannot be matched, so the check fails with an error and the file is rejected.

How to fix it

Open the tax representative details in your invoicing software and check that the number sits in the VAT number field and not in a field for another type of identifier. If you do not use a tax representative, remove those details. If you build the XML yourself, set the schemeID attribute of ram:ID inside ram:SpecifiedTaxRegistration of ram:SellerTaxRepresentativeTradeParty to VA.

The rule as published

Value of '@schemeID' is not allowed.

Where this rule applies

Factur-X 1.09 BASIC 1.0.9-2
