BR-RO-L156: Preceding invoice number must be 200 characters or fewer

In short

BR-RO-L156 means the reference to the earlier invoice (BT-25) is longer than 200 characters. Fix it by entering only the number of the invoice you are correcting or crediting.

On this page

What it means

The preceding invoice number (BT-25) points from a credit note or corrective invoice to the earlier invoice. It may be at most 200 characters in the Romanian rule set for RO e-Factura (CIUS-RO). In the UBL file this is the ID inside InvoiceDocumentReference in each BillingReference, and each one is checked on its own. Leading and trailing spaces are ignored and repeated spaces count once.

Why it matters

The reference links the new document to the invoice it corrects, so the buyer and the tax authority can follow the chain. This is a fatal rule, so RO e-Factura rejects the file and you have to send a corrected one.

How to fix it

In your invoicing software, open the credit note and find the field for the original invoice or the invoice it refers to. Replace the text with just the invoice number of that earlier invoice, without notes or a description. Then create the file again.

The rule as published

Numarul maxim permis de caractere pentru Referinta la o factura anterioara (BT-25) este 200. #The allowed maximum number of characters for the Preceding Invoice number (BT-25) is 200.
