BR-RO-L140: Payment reference must be 140 characters or fewer

In short

Fatal: fails the selected checks.

BR-RO-L140 means the payment reference (BT-83) is longer than 140 characters, which the Romanian rule set does not allow. Fix it by shortening the reference to 140 characters or fewer, for example to just the invoice number.

What it means

The payment reference (BT-83), called remittance information in the standard, is the text the buyer should quote when paying. The Romanian rule set for RO e-Factura (CIUS-RO) limits it to 140 characters. Leading and trailing spaces are ignored and repeated spaces count once.

Why it matters

The payment reference is what the buyer copies into the bank transfer so you can match the payment to the invoice. This is a fatal rule, so RO e-Factura rejects an invoice whose reference is too long and you have to send a corrected file.

How to fix it

In your invoicing software, find the field for the payment reference or payment details on the invoice. Replace any long text with a short reference such as the invoice number. If you edit the XML directly, the field is PaymentID inside PaymentMeans, and each payment means block is checked on its own.

The rule as published

Numarul maxim permis de caractere pentru Aviz de plata (BT-83) este 140. #The allowed maximum number of characters for the Remittance information (BT-83) is 140.
