What it means
In the reference to a preceding invoice (BG-3), the invoice number of the earlier invoice (BT-25) identifies it. The invoice date of that earlier invoice (BT-26) is optional in EN 16931, but the Dutch rules advise against it. The rule raises the warning whenever the date is used.
Why it matters
Nothing is rejected. The number is what identifies the earlier invoice, so the date is not needed for the recipient to match the two.
How to fix it
This usually appears on credit notes and corrections. In your invoicing software, look for the date of the original invoice in the reference to the earlier invoice, or in the export options, and remove it. Keep the invoice number. It is worth fixing only if you want a file without warnings.
