Warning

BR-NL-25: Dutch sellers should give a VAT number, not another tax number

In short

Warning: worth checking.

BR-NL-25 means the seller has a tax registration identifier that is not a VAT number (BT-32), which does not apply to Dutch suppliers. It is only a warning and the file is still accepted; remove the other tax number and keep the VAT number.

On this page

What it means

The seller's tax registration identifier is given with a tax scheme other than VAT, so it is a tax number (BT-32) and not the VAT number (BT-31). The warning is not raised for a VAT number. In the CII rule set the same check is made on the seller's tax registration entries whose scheme is not VA (VAT).

Why it matters

Nothing is rejected. The Dutch rule set treats the VAT number as the only tax identifier a Dutch supplier needs, so another tax number adds nothing.

How to fix it

In your company details, find the field for a tax number or fiscal number and clear it. Make sure your VAT number (BTW-nummer, such as NL123456789B01) is in the VAT number field. A common mistake is to put the KVK number in a tax field. It belongs in the company registration number, see BR-NL-1.

The rule as published

The use of a seller tax registration identifier (cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PartyTaxScheme/cbc:CompanyID) is not recommended when the tax scheme is not VAT, since this is not applicable to suppliers in the Netherlands

Where NLCIUS (CII) run it, the rule reads:

The use of a seller tax registration identifier (/*/*/ram:SellerTradeParty/ram:SpecifiedTaxRegistration/ram:ID) is not recommended when the tax scheme is not VAT (VA), since this is not applicable to suppliers in the Netherlands
