BR-CO-18: The invoice needs a VAT breakdown

In short

BR-CO-18 means the invoice has no VAT breakdown. Fix it by adding at least one VAT summary entry, even with a VAT amount of 0 and an exemption reason when you charge no VAT.

On this page

What it means

The invoice has no VAT breakdown (BG-23): the summary that lists, for each VAT category and rate, the taxable amount and the VAT.

Why it matters

Every e-invoice must show its VAT this way, even when no VAT is charged. Without it the invoice is rejected.

How to fix it

Make sure your invoicing software writes a VAT summary with at least one entry. If you charge no VAT, add one entry with the right category (for example E for exempt, AE for reverse charge, or O outside the scope of VAT), the taxable amount, a VAT amount of 0 and the reason for exemption.

The rule as published

An Invoice shall at least have one VAT breakdown group (BG-23).

Business terms: BG-23
