BR-CL-04: The invoice currency must be a valid ISO 4217 code

In short

BR-CL-04 means the invoice currency code (BT-5) is not a valid ISO 4217 currency code. Choose the invoice currency from the list in your invoicing software rather than typing it, and export again.

On this page

What it means

The invoice currency code (BT-5) must be a valid ISO 4217 code: three capital letters, such as EUR, USD or GBP.

Why it matters

Codes are read by software, not by people. A value outside the agreed code list cannot be interpreted, so the recipient's system rejects the invoice even when the value looks sensible to a person.

How to fix it

Choose the invoice currency from the list in your invoicing software rather than typing it, and export again. If you build the XML yourself, write the code in capitals, for example EUR in cbc:DocumentCurrencyCode (UBL) or ram:InvoiceCurrencyCode (CII).

The rule as published

Invoice currency code MUST be coded using ISO code list 4217 alpha-3
