Open a Peppol BIS invoice

You can open a Peppol BIS invoice in your browser with the Klarbon viewer: drop the XML file and it appears as a readable invoice with parties, lines, VAT and totals. Opening is free and unlimited, needs no account and the file stays on your device. Klarbon reads files; it does not send or receive invoices on the Peppol network.

What is a Peppol BIS invoice?

A Peppol BIS invoice is a UBL XML file that follows Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, the invoice specification of the Peppol network, built on the European standard EN 16931 (OpenPeppol). Peppol itself is the network that carries the file between service providers, called access points. The file is the invoice; the network is the post.

You usually get the XML when your accounting tool or access point lets you download it, or when a supplier emails it. Opened directly it is a wall of tags, which is why you need a viewer. More in what is Peppol BIS Billing.

How do I open a Peppol invoice?

Drop the file on the viewer or tap to choose it.

1. Choose or drop the .xml file.
2. Klarbon detects that it is UBL and shows the invoice: seller and buyer with their Peppol identifiers and VAT numbers, invoice number, dates, buyer reference or order number, each line, the VAT breakdown, totals and payment details.
3. Print or save a readable copy.
4. If the file will not open, try Check for supported diagnostics, or ask the sender for a fresh copy.

A synthetic example: an invoice from "Bakkerij De Vos BV" in Ghent for EUR 242.00 opens showing the enterprise number, 21% VAT of EUR 42.00, a structured payment reference and the IBAN.

My invoice is in Peppol but I have no file. Can Klarbon fetch it?

No. Klarbon is not a Peppol access point and cannot retrieve invoices from the network. If an invoice addressed to you has not arrived, ask your access point or accounting software provider. Once you have the XML file, the viewer can show it.

Can I read a Peppol invoice on my phone?

Yes. The viewer works in any modern browser on iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop. On an iPhone, pick the file from Files or Mail. On Android and desktop Chrome or Edge, you can install Klarbon from the browser and share files to it.

Is my invoice uploaded?

No. Open runs entirely in your browser. Check, Convert and the paid tools send the file to Klarbon's servers and delete it after the request. See what happens to your files.

How do I save a readable copy?

Choose Print, then Save as PDF. The copy is handy for approval, your bookkeeper or your records. The XML stays the original e-invoice, so keep it.

Does opening validate the invoice?

No. A Peppol file can display correctly and still break a rule, for example a missing business process identifier or totals that do not add up. Check the invoice against Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and EN 16931, with guidance on returned findings.

Do I have to use Peppol in Belgium?

In-scope Belgian VAT-registered businesses must exchange structured e-invoices for domestic B2B transactions since 1 January 2026, and Peppol is the usual route (Belgian federal portal). There are exceptions, so check the official scope. The Belgium guide has the details.
