BR-05: Invoice currency is required

In short

BR-05 means the invoice currency code (BT-5) is missing. Set the currency of the invoice, usually EUR, in your invoicing software and export again.

On this page

What it means

Every invoice must contain the invoice currency code (BT-5). It is the three-letter ISO 4217 code of the currency the amounts are in, such as EUR.

Why it matters

EN 16931, the European e-invoicing standard, makes this field mandatory. Without it the recipient's system rejects the invoice before anyone reads it, and public bodies and Peppol access points refuse it outright.

How to fix it

Set the currency of the invoice, usually EUR, in your invoicing software and export again. In the XML it is cbc:DocumentCurrencyCode (UBL) or ram:InvoiceCurrencyCode (CII).

The rule as published

An Invoice shall have an Invoice currency code (BT-5).

Business terms: BT-5
