Open an Italian FatturaPA invoice

You can read an Italian e-invoice in your browser with the Klarbon FatturaPA viewer: drop the .xml or .xml.p7m file and read the seller, buyer, lines, VAT and amount due. It is free, needs no account, and the file never leaves your device. The viewer, in beta, only opens and reads the file. It does not check the invoice, convert it for submission or send anything to the SdI.

What is a FatturaPA file?

FatturaPA is Italy's national XML e-invoice format, used with the Sistema di Interscambio (SdI), the tax authority's exchange system (European Commission). Klarbon supports reading FPR12 files in beta. Opening a file here is not transmission to the SdI or proof that it has been issued or accepted.

If you work with an Italian supplier, you may receive one as an email attachment with a name such as IT01234567890_00001.xml. Opened in a text editor it is a wall of Italian tags. The viewer turns it back into an invoice a person can read.

Which files open?

If a file holds more than one invoice, the viewer shows only the first one for now. More on the format in what is FatturaPA.

How do I read a FatturaPA?

1. Choose or drop the file. Klarbon recognises a FatturaPA from its content, whatever the file is called.
2. The invoice appears with the labels in your language: parties and their VAT numbers, document type, number and date, each line, the VAT summary, the amount due and the payment details.
3. Italian details that have no European equivalent, such as the tax regime, the withholding tax (ritenuta) or the stamp duty (bollo), are shown under their Italian names, with the official Italian description of each code.
4. Print it or save it as a PDF.

A synthetic example: a FatturaPA from "Rossi Forniture S.r.l." for EUR 1,220.00 opens showing the seller's partita IVA, document type TD01 (invoice), one line of EUR 1,000.00, 22% VAT and a bank transfer to the IBAN given.

What about .p7m files?

An .xml.p7m file is the FatturaPA XML inside a CAdES digital signature envelope. The envelope carries the signed content; do not treat opening it as proof that the signer is trusted. Klarbon opens the envelope in your browser, also when the file is signed more than once, and shows the invoice. This viewer does not establish the signer's identity or certificate trust and never signs anything. Keep the original .p7m file as received.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Opening runs entirely in your browser, so the invoice stays on your device while you read, print or save it. See what happens to your files.

How do I save a FatturaPA as a PDF?

Open the file, choose Print, then Save as PDF in your browser's print dialogue. You get a readable copy for your records, your bookkeeper or a payment approval. It is not an e-invoice: the XML stays the original. More in save an invoice as PDF.

What the viewer does not do

• It does not check the invoice against the FatturaPA schema or the SdI rules. A file can display perfectly and still be rejected by the SdI.
• It does not create, convert or sign a FatturaPA for submission.
• It does not send anything to the SdI or to anyone else.
