Open a Factur-X invoice

You can open a Factur-X invoice in your browser with the Klarbon viewer: drop the PDF and it shows the structured invoice data from the XML inside, laid out as a readable invoice. It is free and unlimited, with no account, and the file never leaves your device. Viewing is not validation; Check tests the rules.

What is a Factur-X invoice?

Factur-X is a hybrid e-invoice: a readable PDF with the same invoice embedded as UN/CEFACT CII XML (FNFE-MPE). It is the French name for the format Germany calls ZUGFeRD; the current release is Factur-X 1.09.2. The PDF is for people, the XML is for software, and the XML is what a platform or accounting tool processes.

Opening only the visible PDF in a normal reader can miss details that live in the XML, such as the buyer's identifiers or line-level VAT categories. It also cannot tell you whether XML is there at all. See what is Factur-X.

How do I open a Factur-X invoice?

Drop the PDF on the viewer or tap to choose it.

1. Choose or drop the .pdf file. A standalone CII .xml file works too.
2. Klarbon finds the embedded XML, shows the declared profile and renders the invoice: seller and buyer with their identifiers, invoice number and dates, lines, VAT breakdown, totals and payment terms.
3. Compare it with the visible PDF if you need to confirm they match.
4. Print or save a readable copy.

A synthetic example: a Factur-X from "Atelier Martin SARL" for EUR 600.00 opens showing the SIREN, the EN 16931 profile, three lines at 20% VAT and a bank transfer due in 30 days.

If no XML is found, the viewer says so. The file is then an ordinary PDF, not a Factur-X e-invoice, even if it is PDF/A-3. You can enter its details yourself in Convert to create a new hybrid invoice. Automatic PDF reading is not available yet.

Do all Factur-X files contain the same data?

No. Factur-X has profiles: MINIMUM, BASIC WL, BASIC, EN 16931 and EXTENDED. MINIMUM and BASIC WL carry header data but not the full invoice detail EN 16931 requires. The viewer shows the profile, so a file with no line items is easy to spot.

Can I read a Factur-X invoice on my phone?

Yes. The viewer runs in any modern browser on iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop. On an iPhone, pick the file from Files or Mail. On Android and desktop Chrome or Edge, you can install Klarbon from the browser and share attachments to it.

Is my invoice uploaded?

No. Open runs entirely in your browser. Check, Convert and the paid tools send the file to Klarbon's servers and delete it after the request. See what happens to your files.

How do I save a readable copy?

Choose Print, then Save as PDF. The copy shows the structured data and suits approval or your accountant. It is not a new Factur-X file; keep the original.

Does opening validate the invoice, or send it?

Neither. A Factur-X file can open cleanly and still fail its profile rules or sit in an invalid PDF/A-3 container; Check tests that. Klarbon also does not transmit invoices. In France, invoices in scope of the reform are exchanged through an approved platform (plateforme agréée), with businesses receiving since 1 September 2026 (DGFiP).
