BR-DEC-05: Charge on the whole invoice: at most two decimals

In short

Fatal: fails the selected checks.

BR-DEC-05 means a charge on the whole invoice, such as a delivery or handling fee, has an amount with more than two decimals. Fix it by rounding that charge to two decimals, for example 7.50 instead of 7.504.

On this page

What it means

The amount of a charge that applies to the whole invoice rather than to one line (BT-99), such as shipping, packaging or an admin fee, has more than two digits after the decimal point. Every digit after the point counts, so 7.504 fails and so does 7.500.

Why it matters

Charges on the whole invoice are added into the invoice totals. An amount with extra decimals cannot be added into totals that are limited to cents, so the file fails validation and is rejected.

How to fix it

Find the extra fee on the whole invoice (software often calls it a document charge, surcharge or shipping cost) and round its amount to two decimals. Then check that the total of charges (BT-108) is still the sum of these charges. Round the number that is exported, not just the one displayed on screen.

The rule as published

The allowed maximum number of decimals for the Document level charge amount (BT-99) is 2.
